Question : I recently had an impacted wisdom tooth removed on August 17, 21016. At that time or thereafter, my jaw was cracked in the area of empty cavity.
I was told by my treating Oral surgeon that since it was not displaced, that it would heal on its own with no wiring needed as long as I was careful and ate only soft foods. No hard biting.
However, was told today, after getting a second opinion by another oral surgeon, that wiring and fixation of jaw would be necessary to heal.
At this time, I'm at a loss as to what to do. Will my jaw heal on its own without wiring or fixation?

Brief Answer:
Needs fixation..
Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..
I have gone through your query and also evaluated the Panoramic x ray attached..
There is a clear line of fracture extending from the extraction socket and the jaw bone has fractured..
As lower jaw is a movable structure, therefore it will not heal on its pwn, rather if not treated it can cause complications like Bony segments getting displaced and fusing at wrong place while the segments can not heal at all..
So the opinion about wiring and fixation is appropriate and you need to proceed with it..
Any further questions are welcome..
Regards..
