Question: I had low mustache growth. I went to see a doctor. He asked me to perform Total Testosterone test. I did it and the result was 181ng/dL (The sample was taken at 6 PM). He said that this is not enough you will have to take testosterone injections. He prescribed me the same and I took one of them every week in the hip muscles. Doctor then asked me to do the test again. This time the result was 212 ng/dL (This sample was taken at 9 AM). I beleive this to be very insignificant increase. He has asked me to take more injections. Should I go this uncomfortable phase again and for how long? My liver SGPT XXXXXXX to 120 due to this as told by the liver specialist. Now SGPT is normal but mustache growth is not much. By the way I am able to grow a good beard.

Brief Answer:
need detailed evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX hi and welcome to HCM. I m dr. Minal. XXXXXXX the problem u r facing is very common, and faced by many men of your age. Serum testosterone alone is not responsible and also moustache growth alone is not the deciding factor of your normal hormonal profile.
Now I am not giving you false hope neithert disheartening you. I am only advising you what needs to be done, what i would have suggested had you visited my clinic.
first you need to stop these injections for next two months. After two months you need to evaluate your complete hormonal balance.
1. LH
2. FSH
3. Testosterone
4. TSH
5. Ft4
6. cortisol
7. mri brain for pituitary with contrast.
please excuse me for asking few personal questions,
you have already mentioned your beard growth is adequate, what about your pubic hair , axillary hair,
how is erection? are u having normal morning erections?
regards!

Thank you so much Doctor, for the concern.
1)I have not taken injections for last four months.
2)Yes the erections are absolutely normal and fine. Pubic hair, axillary hair are also good and adequate. Normal morning erections (but sometimes i dont but this happens rarely).
3) I will be doing the tests shortly. Please let me know if there are any specific timings related to tests or specific way like pooled sample etc.
4) Can mustache growth be increased ultimately?

Brief Answer:
mustachio growth is dependent on many factors

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi! good to hear all positive replies.
it seems less likely that there is an underlying problem.
All tests are to be done early morning , empty stomach, preferably 8 am fasting sample.
regards!
