What Does This Ultrasound Of Uterus Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Sep 2014
Question: Hello. I have results of ultrasound of my uterus. Would like second opinion of resultsFindings: Transabdominal and endovaginal imaging of the pelvis.
The uterus measures 10.9 x 6.0 x 8.8 cm. Heterogeneity about the uterus is seen.
Scattered hypoechoic areas are seen towards the fundus. The endometrium is seen
endovaginally measuring up to 8 mm. The right ovary measures 3.0 x 4.0 x 4.0 cm.
The left ovary measures 5.8 x 3.3 x 4.8 cm. There is a 3.9 cm cyst within. A 2nd
cyst measures 3.4 cm. Color Doppler imaging reveals flow bilaterally. No free
fluid within the pelvis.
Impression:
1. Left ovarian cysts measuring 3.9 and 3.4 cm. Configuration of the ovaries
does not suggest polycystic ovaries.
2. Mild heterogeneity to the uterus could relate to underlying leiomyomatous
changes.
3. No free fluid within the pelvis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
The ultrasound report is suggestive of small fibroids of insignificant sizes in the fund us regions of uterus and increase in endometrial thickness because of them.
At the age of 43 years it practically carries no significance specially if your cycles are regular with moderate blood flow during periods.
Ultrasound also shows cysts in ovary on left side which are most probably follicular cysts and will get resolved themselves but to monitor them you need a repeat ultrasound after 3 months.
After 3 months in case they disappear or size decreases then there is nothing to worry but in case there happens to be increase in size or cyst has internal septa formation then they will need removal ( less chances of increase in size at this age).
I hope I have answered your question but in case you have any other query I will be happy to help.

Thank you very much. This ultrasound was taken about 3 days before I was due to start my period. Would that also be a reason for thickness of endometrium? I will make sure to do a follow up and see if the cyst shrinks or goes away. If they do not go away, and have to be removed, is that a simple procedure? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
simple procedure

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam yes thickness is because of that only and will be reduced after periods.
Also fibroids can cause mild elevation of thickness but that is also fine so nothing to worry.
And in case removal of cyst is required it can be done via ultrasound aspiration of cyst which is an OPD type procedure and no admission is required for the same.
All the best.
