What Does This Ultrasound Report During Pregnancy Indicate?

Posted on Wed, 7 Sep 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,

My wife had undergone Pregnancy level 1 USG on 3rd July. Her report is attached.
There is a line in report "Placenta is anterior, grade O, reaching os."...is this something to worry about?

She would be undergoing her pregnancy level 2 USG tomorrow. Is there anything specific that we shall ask USG doctor to check or any precautions to be taken? Thanks in advance for your help.

Brief Answer:
USG at 20 weeks will help. Placenta if migrated , do not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear XXXXXXX

Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at HCM virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.

1. First of all do not panic.

2. USG report of your wife is all okay.
Placenta anterior and grade 0 is normal.

3. The word reaching os needs attention.
But please do not worry.

4. As her pregnancy is around 20 weeks now, USG reporting at this time will help to know if the location of placenta has shifted away from os.

As such placenta does not migrate, but it is relative stretching of the lower uterine segment that takes the placental location away from the os.

5. If it is seen even 1.5 cm away from the os in new USG there is no need to worry at all.

6. Only concern about low lying placenta is about painless, causeless bleeding .
I will suggest to keep watch on any such bleeding, if she gets at all; please report to your treating doctor at the earliest.

7. Please ask her to indulge in a healthy diet and have IRON, CALCIUM and protein supplements.

I hope this answer was helpful to you!
Please kindly rate it as helpful and write a short review about your experience with me! I would appreciate that a lot.
Thank you and best regards!

Hi there,
Thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back.

I have gone through the USG reports.
In my opinion Placental location has moved quite away from internal os.

As such anterior placenta, more than 1.5 cm away from the internal os.Now onwards this pregnancy will not be considered as placenta previa.

So please do not worry.
Follow routine obstetric care.

May God bless you with a bundle of XXXXXXX
