What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: I underwent medical abortion recently.
As my GYN suggested after seeing the ultrasound report:
19th Aug took mifepristone orally
20th August misoprostol vaginally inserted(4 tablets) and three following day orally for 3 days (9 tablets).
I shed the particles and USG scan taken on 5th September said minimal particles 1.1x0.6x1.1 present.
My GYN asked me to take 3 days of MISOPROST orally (9 tablets). Started taking on 5th September after dinner.
I had unprotected sex on 6th September around 10:00am. Doctor advised me not to have intercourse after we had already done it.
I'm worried if I might become pregnant again. Please advise. My GYN is out of town and is unreachable on phone now. Can I take an ipill now? It is little over 72 hours.

Also, I've not had spotting or bleeding after the second round (from 5 Sept to 8 Sept) of MISOPROST should I take one other round of 9 tablets?

Brief Answer:
D&C might be a good option

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the chance of pregnancy is less. And ipill efficacy decreases after 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
I feel the D&C is a better option in your case as the medical methods like misoprostol have not resulted in expulsion of retained products.
Even as the 2nd round of misoprostol has failed surgical procedure like D&C helps in complete clearance of the retained products.
So discuss regarding D&C with your doctor.
So there might be no need of furthur doses of misoprostol as the success rate might be less.
With D&C the chance of pregnancy also decreases.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
