Question: My mom is 72 yrs old and is an patient of colon ca stage 3B. She did 6 cycles of Xelox (Xeloda) regimen during mid 2013. After a PET scan she was declared cancer-free in mid 2013. On routine followup with ultrasound, we find this info now.
a) LIVER shows normal shape, size and has coarsened echopattern. No evidence of intrahepatic biliary ductal dilatation. Hepatic and portal vein radicals are normal. Small hypoechoic nodule measuring 1.0 x 1.0cms in the is right lobe of liver. Portal vein 12mm
b) Anterior abdominal wall defected pelvis measuring 4.8 x 4.0cms with underlying bowel loops.
c) COARSENED LIVER ECHOTEXTURE WITH SMALL HYPODENSE NODULE IN THE LIVER.

Her LFT values are normal, ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) is 42 mm/hr, Platelet Count 1.32 lakh/cu.mm, Alkaline Phosphatase (SAP) 162 U/L, GGT(Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase) 36U/L, CEA (Carcino Embryonic Antigen) 2.85 ng/mL

I would like to know if the liver condition is dangerous and if its cancerous?

Brief Answer:
Need to do a TRIPLE PHASE CECT ABDOMEN

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Considering already a known case of cancer ,and now there is a SOL in liver we cant ignore that lesion ,so better consider to get an triple phase CECT abdomen to known the lesion, even though all other blood investigations are normal.
And also consider to get an AFP (alpha feto protein) test too.

Hope this information help you

Brief Answer:
if it turned out to be malignant only depending on stage we can say

Detailed Answer:
HI,
Triple phase cect abdomen helps us to rule out liver cancer like hepatocellular carcinoma ,and if its positive it depends on what stage it is exactly, and if the lesion is non malignant then nothing to worry just follow up every 6 months will do well .
thank you

Brief Answer:
I dont think it is a malignant nodule ...just follow up will do and AFP

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I dont think so its malignant ,actually you can get a blood test serum AFP ,AND if its normal just a regular follow up will do good ,that is once in 3 to 6 months .
Because all the blood tests are bang normal.
so nothing to worry as of now .
thank you
