What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Question: I'm 18 + 5 weeks and I had an ultrasound with doppler yesterday and it showed that my placenta is grade II already. The tech lady said everything looked good. But I'm still concerned about having a placenta so old at this stage of pregnancy. It also showed average amniotic liquid and baby is 250g.

I don't smoke and my blood pressure was norrmal. I'm overweight, 24 years, eating good, first pregnancy. I'm using aspirin and enoxaparin because I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks.

Also had a small infecction treated with antibiotics.

Brief Answer:
Not to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns about placental maturity.

Placental maturity is graded by observation of calcification and few other small parameters which are subjective to variations in interpretation. Hence grade 2 could actually mean little less as well.

Even if this is grade 2 there is nothing to worry about it as placenta will take care of fetal needs till term and even if is grade 3 sooner. There will be no compromise with fetal growth due to this.

I hope I clarified your doubt.

Thank you.

But is there anything I can do to improve this diagnosis? Food? Bedrest?

Also the ultrasound says that the placenta is fundal posterior, is this a good and safe position? I have retroverted uterus.

Baby was moving a lot during the ultrasound and had a bpm of 145.
