What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Question: I had Ultrasound on 7/1/2016 showed complex cysts on both ovaries and whatever I don't know what is meant by thick septations. I got as early since I only go to Veterans Affairs Hospital to see the GYN doctors I saw them on 7/5/2016. They were concerned that it was a chance it could be cancer had a CA-125 test on 7/5/2016 that was normal they recommend surgery for me but I don't know if just to remove cysts or remove ovaries. Since the VA didn't have any time to schedule my surgery until October more than 30 days they have a program so veterans whose appointment is more than 30 days away can request an outside provider so I did that. That organization called HealthNet contacted me this past Tuesday they said the people on the side that does the scheduling of appointment with provider of choice can take 5 days. But I don't know if I should start getting concerned that the cysts are getting worse off because today I started to experience more pain than I used to have, more nauseated than usual, extremely tired and some body aches. In 2011 I had a hysterectomy so I don't have a uterus. So do you think it is concerned for me that cysts are getting worse off and if so what do you think is the problem making it worse like getting bigger in size, twisted cysts or what is your thought.

Brief Answer:
The symptoms of pain and nausea suggest that they may be partially twisted.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I appreciate your concerns.

Considering your age and the ultrasound findings and normal CA-125, when I calculate your risk of malignancy, the cysts seem to be benign. However they need to be removed.

These cysts don't grow big suddenly. The symptoms of worsening pain and nausea suggest that they may be partially twisted. If completely twisted they may cause acute severe pain.

I suggest that you go to the ER. Ultrasound with Doppler study can definitely find out if the cyst is twisted. If twisted surgery needs to be done urgently. You can have the cyst removed by laparoscope (key hole surgery).

I hope this is helpful.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

I am a certified Personal Trainer but I haven't exercised for about a week or two and about 3 days ago or so I started back up but only doing treadmill no lifting weights because afraid of the cysts on ovaries. Now yesterday and especially more today I don't know if it is from starting up again doing treadmill or is considered worsening of the ovarian cysts have body aches. If body aches are anything or sign of worsening cysts what is the worsening condition I have on Monday morning at 9am an appointment with a GYN surgeon but I guess before any surgery is done I will have to get or go through pre-op testing. My mom and I are supposed to leave on Thursday July 21 to travel by car from Maryland to Conneticut for a wedding on July 23 and return on Monday July 25 how likely do you think I will be allowed to go to the wedding that the GYN surgeon will allow me.

Brief Answer:
If no pain, your doctor will allow you to travel for the marriage

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

The ovarian cysts that you have are small in size. Just by their size they are unlikely to cause pain. Twisting of these cysts may happen resulting in pain. Such pain is usually present in pelvic area.

The body ache that you have is probably because of restarting exercises after a gap. Restart the exercises gradually. You have done the right thing by not doing weight lifting exercises. Do not do them at least until you return from marriage.
If you do not have pain, your doctor will allow you to travel for the marriage. But I suggest you to not drive.
If you have further concerns, do write to me.

Best wishes,
Dr Rama
