Cancer is a strong possibility as a diagnosis, but not 100 percent
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
I have reviewed your previous question as well... as I understand you had some vaginal bleeding that led to getting the ultrasound? If so, endometrial cancer absolutely has to be ruled out as a diagnosis, as your uterine lining is much thicker than the 5mm maximal diameter for a normal postmenopausal woman.
So you do have reason to be concerned about the possibility of cancer, but it is not absolute. You should consult with a gynecologic surgeon or oncologist. They may want you to undergo a biopsy of your uterine lining, which is an office procedure, that will make a definite diagnosis.
There are a few other conditions that cause vaginal bleeding and the appearance of a thick uterine lining, such as polyps and hyperplasia- an overgrowth of the lining that is not cancer. Furthermore, uterine cancer is very treatable if caught early.
I hope the information I gave you was helpful and that you get a diagnosis soon. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Wishing all the best,
Dr. Brown
