What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?
Question: HI, I forgot to ask the question, sorry!
I had my yearly physical checkup in May, 2017. Full blood work and urinalysis came back normal except for a low eGFR. I had a follow up ultrasound for a polyp on my gall bladder. HOWEVER, additional findings on my full abdominal u/s: PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT THIS REPORT MEANS!
"3 hyperechoic foci are identified within the liver. One was in segment 6 measuring 2.5x1.4x2.1 cm (last year 2x1x1.8 cm), stable in size, however its sonographic characteristics have changed, as it is diffusely hyperechoic today, demonstrating hypoechogenicity previously.
Two new lesions are identified, one within segment 7 measuring 1.4x1.5x1.4 cm and one within segment 4A measuring 7x5x4 mm.
Stable gallbladder polyp measuring 5 mm. Pancreatic tail not well-visualized, however the remainder is normal. Spleen and left kidney normal. Right kidney demonstrates a 5mm cortial cyst.
Impression:Dominant hyperechoic lesion within the liver is overall stable in size however its sonographic characteristics have changes, as described.
Two new hepatic lesions identified.
Given the aforementioned findings, multiphasic MR of liver recommended for further characterization."

I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. I need to know if you have any symptoms recently?
2. You need to be evaluated with abdominal.MRI to better evaluate the natyre of liver lessions.
3. Your liver lesions may be related with :
- liver cysts
- liver metastases( rarely hiperechoic on ultrasound)
- hemangioma
4. This is why I stringly suggest to do liver MRI to get a more accurate opinion.

I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. I need to know if you have any symptoms recently?
2. You need to be evaluated with abdominal.MRI to better evaluate the natyre of liver lessions.
3. Your liver lesions may be related with :
- liver cysts
- liver metastases( rarely hiperechoic on ultrasound)
- hemangioma
4. This is why I stringly suggest to do liver MRI to get a more accurate opinion.

Hi,
The only symptom is some upper stomach pain from time to time (infrequent). A month ago it was very painful for 20-30 seconds, but nothing like that since then.
Liver enzymes were within normal limits on my yearly physical blood work 3 months ago.
1. How can a lesion change from hypoechoic to diffusely hyperechoic on u/s
2. what does "sonographic characteristics have changes mean?"
The only symptom is some upper stomach pain from time to time (infrequent). A month ago it was very painful for 20-30 seconds, but nothing like that since then.

This finding may be associated with increased size of liver lesions or necrosis.
Otherwise, it is really important the fact that 2 other lesions are identified recently.
This is why you should do MRI of the abdomen.
