Posted on Fri, 9 Oct 2015
Question: Urinalysis: only sypmtom is frequent urination. No pain, no burning. Was told by Dr., there was blood in urine. Treated for UTI for 3 months with 3 different antibiotics. Urinalysis results just came in:
WBC esterase 2+, Occult blood 2+, WBC >30, RBC 11-30 everything else looks to be in normal range. Still a UTI? Been on Cipro and 2 other antibiotics that were very strong and added a yeast infection, that is now gone. What do lab results mean? If UTI, Why has it not gone away after 3 different rounds of medicine?

Brief Answer:
Chance of drug resistant UTI. Further tests needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an urologist, i can fully understand your concern.
Your urine routine test is very suggestive of an UTI.
It needs confirmation with urine culture test.
However, blood in urine is not normal, after treatment with 3 courses of antibiotic.
You need to have a thorough check-up, with blood routine, sugar, creatinine, ultrasound scan of abdomen with residual urine, and a cystoscopy test.
If these reports are inconclusive, you will need to have a CT-IVU scan.
According to the reports, your doctor should be able to reach a proper diagnosis, and advise you in the proper way.
There's a chance of having developed a drug resistant UTI.
But a culture specific antibiotic will take care of that.
Drink 10-12 glasses fluids daily.
