Question: This is my urine culture report can you please explain it? Another thing.. My dr asked if i cleaned properly before giving the urine sample after she saw the results but im not sure why she asked that.. Please check the report

Answered by Dr. Soumya (15 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Report shows Urinary tract infection by Enterococcus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) The report shows there is urinary tract infection by enterococcus. This is in high concentration in the culture report.

2) Sensitivity report shows that this organism is sensitive to various antibiotics as mentioned against antibiotic as "S" meaning these are effective antibiotics against this organism.

3) "R" means resistance and these antibiotics are not effective.

4) This enterococcus is a common organism which could have been present in fingers, if you have not washed your hand properly. This can lead to wrong report in urine though the infection was in fingers. That is the reason your doctor asked you whether you have cleaned hands properly before collecting urine for testing.

5) Anyway, if you have urinary tract infection, symptoms like burning urination and or pain in lower abdomen usually are present. Please get antibiotics from your doctor as per this report.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya

Augmentin will work and avoid alcohol while on this.

Thanks for clearing the picture.

You definitely have UTI.

doctor
Answered by Dr. Soumya (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Lubricated condoms are better

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes. You can have sex.

It is better to use condoms to prevent any STDs which are possible without any condom.

You can use any lubricated condoms. Lubrication prevents pain in vaginal area after sex. Lot of brands of lubricated condoms available in market. You can choose any one.

Hi i want to ask, when can i retest the urine culture after finishing my antibiotic course?
And usually when can i get relief after starting the antibiotic? Its been 3 days with not much change i still feel the burning even when its during urinating
doctor
Answered by Dr. Soumya (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
5 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi

You should see relief in about 5 days after starting antibiotics.

If burning is still there you can take syrup like citralka. This syrup has urine alkylating agents which reduce the burning sensation in urine.
