What Does Tingling Numbness On The Tongue Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Sep 2017
Question: For about two months now, my tongue has felt numb (a bit tingly) and has lost a significant amount of ability to taste and feel cold. The tongue feels like it is inflamed, but does not look inflamed at all. Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Needs detailed neurological and cranial nerves examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to HealthcareMagic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it needs to be evaluated by a detailed cranial nerves examination as tongue is supplied by almsot three cranial nerves for its sensations and motor movements and needs to be evaluated in detailed as any abnormality can present with the same way.

Once that is ruled out on local examination or radiographic workup if suggested so, it should also be accompanied with a detailed local examination for any loss of tongue pattern or sensations by an oral physician may also be needed.

Also rule out any local fungal infection or thrush as well as glossitis due to other micronutrients and vitamin defficiencies.

Meanwhile replacement of Vitamin C, B12, folic acid, iron and zinc can be of help. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
