Detailed Answer:
Hi,
and thank you for asking HCM!
The blood levels of total cholesterol > 240 mg/dl and LDL Cholesterol > 160 mg/dl are considered to be high, or in medical terms dyslipidemia (hypercholesterolemia).
Dyslipidemia is a bad thing for your health, because dyslipidemia is asociated with an increased risk of developing heart attack (myocardial infarction) and stroke.
If i was your treating doctor probably would begean with lifestyle change:
- Stop smoking
- Eating more soluble fibers, found in fruits and vegetables
- Eating less fat and cholesterol from meat and dairy products
- Exercising at least 30 minutes a day
If the lifestyle change aren't enough to lower your cholesterol level than medical therapy should be started. In such a case i would probably begin atorvastatin 20 mg.
Hope this answered to your queries!
