What Does White Discharge From The Eyes In A Newborn Indicate?

I am sending my 14 months to day care. Today when she came back, white discharge is coming from her one eye (pic attached). Please suggest what could be the reason and what shall we do?

Swabbing the eyes should help
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have checked the attached image. As I can see, there is no redness of the eyes associated. The secretion from the eye(s) is therefore not a cause for concern.
Such a thing can often be encountered in children. Take a piece of cotton, wet it in lukewarm water and swab the eye (closed) from inside out.
Do this if you find the secretions to be present. It should resolve in a couple of days.
In case it becomes more sticky or is associated with redness, you would need to put antibiotic drops like Ciplox (ciprofloxacin) in the eye(s).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

Four times daily for five days
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I do not suppose twice daily would suffice. Apply it four times a day for 5 days. Resolution should occur by then.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks for your reply.
We will use Ciplox 4 times as suggested.
May I ask the cause of this so that we can avoid that if there is some specific cause due to which she is having this problem with her eyes.

A simple eye infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It is good to hear that you are doing as advised. The cause of the presentation is an infection which could be due to exposure to relatively cold temperatures.
Other than keeping warm and comfortable there is hardly anything that can be done about it.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
