Brief Answer:
Stomach infections are usually self limiting. Apply tepid sponging.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and antibiotics are ineffective in such cases. Irrespective of treatment it usually spontaneously resolves in 5-7 days. If your child has fever with temperature more than 100°F, you need to give paracetamol or acetaminophen (P-250, Crocin or Tylenol) to it bring down. Also use tepid sponging. If paracetamol is not effective in bringing down the temperature, you need to use Meftal-P (mefenamic acid) which is more effective. The minimum gap between two doses of Crocin is 4-6 hours. The doses of Crocin and Meftal P are independent of each other. Minimum gap between doses of Meftal P is 6-8 hours. However, I do not think that they would be needed to be used simultaneously.

Regarding the requisite dose, I need to know the body weight of the child. I will await your response.

Brief Answer:
Check if the dose is adequate

Detailed Answer:
The right dose of Metal P is 180 mg per dose i.e. 9 ml of 100mg/5ml syrup (or 18ml of 50mg/5ml syrup) per dose. A lower dose will not be effective. Also make sure to apply tepid sponging to bring down the temperature.

Today his temperature shot up to 103.70-80 twice . We washed his head and applied tepid sponge to bring down the temperature. Is this type of temperature abnormal doctor. Do we need to take any precautions or steps in this type of temperature. Regards

Brief Answer:
The temperature needs to be kept in control

Detailed Answer:
A temperature above 100°F cannot be considered normal. You have done the right thing by giving tepid sponging. Also, give him Meftal P if necessary.

No other precautions needed with respect to temperature.

Regards
