Question: Other than an allergic reaction, what could cause random intense itching on fingers and hands. Not all the fingers and not both hands at the same time. Not everyday either. Hands are not dry.
It is not on the surface as much as deeper under the skin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
Allergy to agents that one eats, inhales or comes into contact is the commonest cause of itching. An elevated IgE is likely to confirm the diagnosis.
Other causes include liver disease, kidney disease, hormonal abnormalities, certain malignancies, dryness of skin due to any cause including the weather. Emotional disorders also present as itching.
Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
