                                            Question : Hi,
My wife has recently been diagnosed with diabetes based on the results of an oral glucose tolerance test.
I have given the results below. Is it possible to tell what type of diabetes is present based on the test results? The results appear to show insulin resistance. However, the fasting sugar levels appear to be ok and previously had been borderline. The Hba1c results were borderline at 5.9 although based on some guidelines a previous level of 6.1 indicated pre-diabetes.
What further tests might be requested to find out more details and the required treatment?
Thank you.

                                    Brief Answer:
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through your query.
Considering the results ,i can say that your wife has Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).
This can be classified as Prediabetes and can evolve in Type2 Diabetes Mellitus. Currently further tests are not required.
The key treatment is a healthy lifestyle with low carb diet, every day moderate physical activities and weight loss.
Metformine is also helpful to lower glucose production in liver and improve the body's sensitivity to insulin.
Hope this is helpful.
Wish you all the best

                                    Dear Dr. Elona,
Thank you for the information and advice.
Upon reviewing I can see that the results do not quite match with a diagnosis of diabetes as mainly the fasting and 1-hour post ingestion blood glucose levels are not above the acceptable range. We had consulted a gynaecologist but will follow up with an endocrinologist for the issue of pre-diabetes.
Thank you.
