Question : When cystoscopy was done August 1, there was no sign of a cancerous tumor. However, my thinking was that bladder cancer doesn't start with a tumor. It likely starts as cancerous cells, which are much, much smaller. Can they see cancerous cells through a cystoscopy, or do you need a biopsy? The MNRA test was 4.07 and is typically supposed to be under 4.0. That test is supposed to be 90 percent accurate. Just wondering if I should pursue a biopsy or just let it go. What initially prompted this was microscopic amounts of blood in urine.

Thanks for your query Based on the facts that you have posted it seems that you have undergone cystoscopic examination to rule out cancerous growth in your bladder as microscopic examination has revealed Red Blood Cells in routine Urine examination.

Presence of RBCin urine can be detected even in bacterial infection of any one of the urinary organs like kidney , bladder or prostate and that does not necessarily due to cancer of bladder.

Every organ is composed of millions of cells which can be seen only by microscope and not by endoscope.

Cancer of the bladder always presents with presence of XXXXXXX blood in urine what is called as Hematuria(Red Coloured Urine) visible with naked eye.

OK. Thanks. Based on your response, I can gather: 1) Cancer of the bladder always has red-colored urine; 2) microscopic blood cells in urine is often an indicator of a bacterial infection somewhere in the urinary tract. Did I get this correct? John Kornachuk
