Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: Yes, I am dating someone who has possibly come down with herpes. I have beeno tested, and I am negative. He is being treated with acyclovir. Says he has not had lab work yet. Is that something that would be prescribed without a diagnosis

Brief Answer:
Anyone who is exposed to an infection does not necessarily get infected.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
All who exposed to STD/HIV are not necessarily got infected. 30-40% of people exposed to such infections remain uninfected even after years of their regular sex contact with their spouses. It depends on various other factors also.

How long after the exposure you had your test for HSV? It could become positive after 2 months as body takes time to react and it will appear in blood after that period.

There is possibility that your partner's diagnosis is to be reconsidered.
Protected sex is always safe for you in future.
