What Is A Ideal Weight Of A 6 Year Old Child?

Question: My Son is 6 years old and he is bit fussy eater and currently his weight is around 17kg.

Am worried about his eating habits and weight gain, request you to suggest some tonic or supplements to help my child to gain weight and improve eating pattern.

Thanks for asking the question

The average of six year old child should be around 18 kg. I wont get overly worried regarding the weight as it is appropriate if we plot this weight on the XXXXXXX growth chart (that is around 50th centile).
Most of the children in this age are more interested in playing rather than eating.So don't force him for eating rather than encourage for good eating habit.
Give him nutritious(balanced food including fresh green vegetables,dry fruits and other seasonal fruits,milk & eggs if non vegetarian)food and avoid giving junk food.
Don't make him eat in front of television to avoid distraction.
Take him also along with you when you go for buying vegetables or fruits and allow him to choose as per his choice.You may also give some supplements like junior Horlicks or Pediasure to meet the nutrient's requirement.


All these things will help in proper growth and monitor the growth on growth monitoring chart(available on the internet).
