What Is Acanthosis?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Sep 2016
Question: Hey, its me again. my sores are getting better here with that medicine and I just started taking the B12. My once question that I forgot to ask and the oral surgeon forgot to tell me is what is acanthosis. The biopsy said hyperkertosis with acanthosis. No one ever explained to me what that was. Just curious?
and also, I know I need to get the stress under control but as for the hyperkertosis and coninuiously gthrusting my tongue into my teeth, will a mouth guard help with that?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Details are explained below..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain Acanthosis is the overgrowth of the cells of the mucosa or the skin giving it a thickened or overgrown appearrence..
Do not worry about is as hyperkeratosis is overproduction of keratin that is also a part of protective phenomena of mucosa and acanthosis is thickening of skin/mucosa..

If you also have tongue thrusting habit orthodontic appliances like Tongue crib will help in preventing tongue thrusting to the teeth..
For this consult an Orthodontist and get evaluated.

Hope this helps..

Regards.
