Brief Answer: EMG test is to detect nerve and muscle function. Detailed Answer: Hi, Thank you for posting your query. EMG (electromyography) test is to test the function of nerves and muscles of arms and legs. It has two parts- the first part is nerve conduction test, in which the nerves are stimulated and their amplitude and conduction velocity of impulses in the nerves are tested. This can show any disease of the nerves. In the second part (EMG), a needle is inserted into the muscle to detect any disease of muscles. The entire testing takes about 30-40 minutes. I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.
