Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!
NOS means Not Otherwise specified. It is a miscellaneous cause of genetic / familial class where every genetic mutation or familial cause is sorted which can not be categorized in to separate class due to its diversity and unknown etiology. Hyperlipidemia is a condition when there are increased lipids in the body. They are of many types. Like Lipoproteinemia, Hypertriglyceridemia, A beta lipoproteinemia, hypercholesterolemia, chylomicronemia,
Let me make it simple for you. Usually hyperlipidemia is classified into genetic / familial and acquired.
Genetic ones are of five types. SIx one is miscellaneous and that Is called NOS. Something which does not fit in first five finally has to be put in this miscellaneous one.
Familial (primary)
1- Hyperlipoproteinemia type I
2- Hyperlipoproteinemia type II
a- Type IIa
b- Type IIb
3 Hyperlipoproteinemia type III
4 Hyperlipoproteinemia type IV
5 Hyperlipoproteinemia type V
6 Unclassified familial forms ( This one is also called NOS. Not otherwise specified).
I hope it clears your query.Don't forget to close the discussion please.
