Question: I've an hairfall since I was 18. I lost almost all my hair on top of my head. I feel itchy and falling feeling when I don't take head shower, I wash my hair everyday with regular shampoo.
My scalp is always dry and I do see white patches or dandruff. I wash with water they disappear for a while and come back.

I do have family history of hairfall.

What is the best way to treat itchy scalp, dandruff and hairfull?

Is scope of hair regrowth? I've even tried minoxidil solution for at least 3 months. I did not notice even slight change.

Brief Answer:
Seborrheic dermatitis with androgenetic alopecia

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I read history you gave and saw the photos you uploaded. After that I feel that you may be having seborrheic dermatitis and androgenetic alopecia.

I would suggest following advice.

- Antihistamines like levocetirizine 5 mg daily
- Oral steroids in tapering dose
- Mild steroid lotion to apply on scalp at night
- Shampoo with ketoconazole shampoo daily at bath
- Avoid stress and anxiety as mental upsets might exacerbate the condition

After recovery of seborrheic dermatitis.. treatment of androgenetic alopecia may be considered. Minoxidil 5% solution twice a day daily along with tab finesteride 1 mg may be considered. Long term treatment is required. If SD relapses, repeat the treatment of SD.

Consult the dermatologist for the perfect treatment and have regular follow ups.

I hope I have answered you as you need.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Is there any alternative for - antihistaminics like levocetirizine 5 mg daily.

I have googled it and found if someone who has liver or gallbladder problem shouldn't take it.

Right now I'm taking treatment for Abdomen gastric pain. I've done couple of test and will be required to take few more test as of now we've not found any issues with liver or gallbladder.
If it's safe to take this medication and for how long is it safe? Do we even have any alternative?

Also, please let me know if I can get OTC medicines.
Can you let me know the chemical composition/generic name of steroids tablets or lotion so that I buy them online?

Brief Answer:
Seborrheic dermatitis with androgenetic alopecia

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Side effects of levocetirizine are rare. However, desloratidine is other drug used to relieve itching. It may be used for long time.

Steroid is not OTC drug. So, it should be taken after dermatologist consultation.

Hope this helps you.
