Question: Was told baby "breached" at about five months. Was born after pre mature after inducement without valid medical reason (un connected with this problem) Baby is now 2 yrs old. There were indications of mobility problems on right leg. Now being told baby has hip dysplasia and may need several operations to correct condition. Is there a connection between the "breech" and this condition Thank you

Brief Answer:
Can be aggravated by breech position.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Hip dysplasia is developmental. It is known to develop around the time of birth, after birth, or even during childhood.
The breech position of the baby in the womb can cause more pressure on the hip joints, stretching the ligaments.
Babies in the breech position are more likely to have hip instability than babies in a normal womb position.
This can be genetically transmitted also. Avoiding hip swaddling with the hips and knees in an extended position can help preventing the hip dysplasia. Keeping the knees and hips flexed and in abduction may help.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Precautions at delivery would not have helped.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Precautions at the time of delivery would not have helped. The laxity of the ligaments is due to the position of the baby and the effect of maternal hormones on the baby.
Hope my answer is helpful.
