What Is The Cause And Treatment For Intertrigo?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Jul 2014
Question: So, this takes my skin-related questions to three now! Hopefully this is the last. 20 years ago, I had some skin infection in both inner thighs. This was attributed to the bad bathing water quality in the hostel I had stayed. After applying Candiderma Cream for 2 months, the infection, itching, and skin-peeling stopped. It has never come back. But the dark patch has stayed. It seems darker now (or may be it's just me). Is there a remedy that will bring back my original skin tone? This is just a long shot. No worries if there is no remedy for this. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Intertrigo

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.

I have gone through your history and seen the clinical photograph attached.

You seem to be having skin darkening as a result of Intertrigo.

Intertrigo is irritation of the skin folds where they are in close proximity to each other as a result of constant friction. This is most commonly seen in between the thighs, other sites being underarms and abdominal folds, especially in obese individuals.

If you do not have any symptoms at present, I would advise you to leave it alone. You could use a dusting powder ( e.g- Abzorb dusting powder) twice a day to minimise the friction. Keep the area as dry as possible.

Even in the absence of Intertrigo, the skin between the thighs is normally darker than the rest of the body in all the individuals. The colour will appear darker after an episode of infection/intertrigo. However, if you are very much concerned about the colour, you could use a lightening cream containing 2% Kojic acid ( e.g- Kojivit gel) at bedtime for 8 weeks. This will lighten the area to a certain extent.

Hope this helps you.

Take care.
