Brief Answer:
Due to disc prolapse.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the right leg is due to the disc prolapse and nerve root compression at the level of L5-S1.
It occurs due to repetitive overload or stress to the disc & it increases the risk of disc herniation & spinal canal stenosis.
For this condition he has to do stretching & strengthening exercises in which he has to stretch tight muscles & strengthen weakened ones which will alleviate stress on facet joint and disc.
- Maintain optimum body weight,if you are obese
- Avoid lifting heavy weights as it imparts more strain on the back
- Change the daily activities so that avoid movements that can cause further pain, especially bending forward and lifting as it will worsen the disc protrusion. if you want to bend forwards, do it with your hips and knees flexed.
- Use a lumbosacral back support to stabilize the spinal muscles
- Intermittent pelvic traction might be helpful to cause a regression of the protruded disc
- After the initial pain has subsided, remedial exercises to strengthen the spine are very important to restore normal spinal movements and muscle strength. The main aim of exercise is to encourage mobility, reduce muscle spasm, prevent further deterioration in the muscles and speed recovery.
- Use analgesics and muscle relaxants to relieve pain and muscle spasm, as needed. These are already prescribed by his doctor. Vitamin B12 supplements & Pregabalin may be helpful in controlling the neuropathic pain.
Since these are degenerative changes- age related permanent cure is difficult.
I hope this answers your query.

Thanks for answering doctor Tayal!!

Your answer is too technical for me. Can you please explain me in more simpler words the activities he needs to do & avoid.

Also, from the medicines prescribed which medicines he can take for long time.

Thanks for your time.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
No bending forward no lifting of heavy weights no climbing stairs.
Lose some weight and be fit.
Try L-S belt- consult your orthopedist for a belt of appropriate size and type.
Go for regular physiotherapy after the pain subsides- lumbar traction will help.
Continue with Mexgalin 75 and get a muscle relaxant prescribed like Tolagin 4mg twice a day for long term use.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thanks doctor!! One small question.

Is "disc prolapse" only reason of leg pain here. He is not having any pain in back as such.

I hope this i my last question. Thanks again!!

Brief Answer:
Yes.

Detailed Answer:
Yes. The disc prolapse is causing a nerve root compression that is causing the pain in the leg although there is no pain in the back. A lumbar traction under the guidance of a physiotherapist will help in reducing the compression of the nerve.
Regards.
