Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: Hi,

This past few days, i had a flu associated with cough. But yesterday, i started feeling like there was something stuck in the back of my throat, like a hair or something. And i keep on swallowing it or try to cough again and again thinking that i am gonna remove it but it doesnt work, i also try to reach it using my bare hands but it also it doesnt work. But when i checked it on the mirror, i was freaked out because i saw a bunch of bumps in the back of my tongue going all the way done to my throat because i can feel it. The visible bumps was likely in the range of 8-10. And its too annoying because i already feel my throat gets irritated that i feel like i was already having a sore throat because i keep on coughing all day since yesterday and im doing my swallowing thing again and again and it hurts right now. Should i go and visit a doctor already? If not, how can i get rid of all this bumps and how long will gonna stay on my tongue? What should i do?? Please help.. im already having a hard time to catch my sleep because this bumps bothers me a lot. :-(
Thanks.

Brief answer.....it is pharyngitis.
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
You seem to have developed viral pharyngitis and it would take 3-4 days to go away.
Treatment involves ...
Warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day.
Steam inhalation twice a day.
Avoiding cold drinks, smoking and spicy foods.
Taking ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day for 3-4 days.
Normally such bumps disappear in 2-3 days time but if you feel that your problem has worsened or bumps have increased, then you may have to visit your doctor for prescription of a course of an antibiotic.
At the moment There is nothing to worry and do as told above.
I hope it helps however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
