Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can not answer for you why your doctor would change you from sertraline to quetiapine, you would have to ask your doctor the reason for the change. I can tell you the differences in the medications and how they are used.
Sertraline is also called Zoloft. It is a serotonin uptake inhibitor and is used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. Common side effects are nausea, headache and sexual dysfunction.
Quetiapine is also called Seroquel. It is an atypical antipsychotic but is used for many different reasons not just for psychosis. It is used to treat Bipolar disorder both mania and depression. It is often used as a sleep aid in people with depression. It is also used to help treat depression. Common side effects are sedation, dizziness and dry mouth.
I hope this is helpful,
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
