Question: Hi,

I would like to know, the difference between urinalysis and urine culture? which of the two will arrive an accurate results?

I have been tested positive for infection twice in my urinalysis but the culture says only 4000 insignificatnt growth bacteria has been found and they ruled out that I don;t have an infection. By the way I am on my first trimester of my pregnancy.

How realiable is this?

Also can BV or UTI detected in the culture or urinalysis?

Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.

> Urine Analysis:
It tells about different constituents of urine. There are a number of aspects which represent different diseases. Those diseases are confirmed by looking into the values of those aspects. If some particular aspect is raised then further workup is done.

> Urine Culture:
This procedure helps to grow bacteria on specific medium. Growth of bacteria helps to confirm the type of organism AND to which specific antibiotic will it get killed so that, that particular antibiotic is given as first line of treatment. If culture says you are clear then it means you don't have infection.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
