Brief Answer:
Yes! Your baby is fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us about it.

Congratulation on your pregnancy.

The fact about your outcomes-

The positive IgG test means (as in your case) that you had a rubella infection in the past or you are vaccinated against German measles. It signifies you are immune to rubella infection, so it will not cause any harm to your baby.

The negative IgM test (as in your case) means there is no recent rubella infection.

So your test results are fine and there is no damage to your baby.

So you do not worry about it.

Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to assist you.

Best of luck for your future.

Enjoy secure and happy motherhood.

Thankyou for your response. what is the meaning of increased IGG during pregnancy. for instance an increase from 106 to 209 in one week. is that indicative of an active infection. if there is an infection is the baby protected.

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
No it is not indicative of active infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nice to hear from you all again.

Your rising titre will not indicate active (acute) infection for active infection titre should raise 3-4 fold in 3-4 weeks.( it is only 106 to 209).

Your IgM test result is negative means you are not experiencing any acute infection.

Acute infection indicated by seroconversion means initially IgG level negative and after 2-3 weeks it become positive.

Your positive IgG only indicates past infection and your vaccination status.
You are immune to rubella infection because your titre level of IgG is more than 100.

Hence you don't have any acute infection, so your baby is also safe.

Hope it is useful, feel free to discuss more.

Good luck.

my question has not been answered. i talked about a positive igm. my question generally is if my igg and igm are both positive is my baby affected?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
If IgM is positive baby get affected.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Sorry for all the inconvenience.

Facts about your trouble-

Your baby will get affected in this scenario-

- If IgG seroconversion present means once IgG negative becomes positive in the second test.
- If IgM is positive (it shows recent infection)
- If IgG level increased 3-4 folds during 3-4 weeks.

If IgG alone is positive (means IgM is negative) it indicates only past infection or status of vaccination, in these cases, patients consider immune and her baby does not get affected.

Hope it is helpful and now your query is answered.

Further doubt, please inquire.

Good luck.

Dr.Richa
