What Is The Ideal Time Gap Between Generic Triphasil Pill And Qlaira?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: Hi there - I stopped the generic triphasil pill on Friday last week (after being on it for almost two months) and I'm not sure how long I need to wait to start with Qlaira. Triphasil did not agree with me and my periods were irregular and I was bleeding for ten days on the wrong days. My dr advised me stop it as it was also affecting me emotionally. So I did straightaway, but that was a week ago now. Do I now wait for my natural cycle to start again and start the new pill with that? Also, I assume if the bleeding was not on the correct days that I might well not have been protected during that time frame?

Brief Answer:
Start Qlaira from today. Use additional contraception for first 9 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
After stopping the Triphasic pill you should have started Qlaira the following day only, i.e. on Saturday. This would have protected you from pregnancy straight away.
Now since you had irregular bleeding with Triphasic, there is no need to wait for your natural cycle. Start Qlaira from today onwards. But this will not protect you from pregnancy immediately. You will be protected from pregnancy after 9 days. You need to use additional contraception like condom for the first nine days or not have sex during these 9 days.
Triphasic pill taken correctly, definitely protects you from pregnancy. For some women the body takes some time to get adjusted to the pill. That is the reason for the irregular bleeding you had with Triphasic. You were definitely protected during that time frame.
I hope I have answered your concerns.

Thanks very much. So possibly the triphasic pill just didn't suit me and that is one of the reasons for the irregular bleeding and no period on the days it was supposed to happen? I took it at the same time (within half an hour) every day. I set an alarm for it. So that should be ok still? Is there any reason for me to wait for my correct cycle, or any reason that it should not be ok for me to start it again tomorrow? Qlaira gets you to start on the 1st day of your period, so will my cycle be out if I just start it tomorrow for example? How do I work that part out? You have to put a sticker on the pills with the start day. There is just so much info and it's made me confused!!

Brief Answer:
Start Qlaira from today. Use additional contraception for first 9 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
You really seem to be a meticulous woman. You have taken in the perfect way. So there is no doubt about its efficacy.

There is no reason for you to wait for your correct cycle. Since you had irregular bleeding while on triphasic we do not know when you will start your cycle. There is absolutely no problem with starting the pill from today. Since you are not starting it on first day of your cycle I advised you to use additional contraception for 9 days or not have sex during those days. You may start your period during these 9 days. Don't bother about it. Continue with your pill taking schedule
If you do not wish to do it this way. You have another option. You can wait for your natural cycle and start from the first day of your period. But until then you need to use contraception like condom (or not have sex).
I hope this helps.

Thank you once again. My only concern is that when I originally started the pill the nurse at the clinic told me to start it on the day I was there, which was four or so days after my period ended, and she told me to start on the last active pill (this was a Tuesday). Is it possible that my whole cycle is out because of starting then? I wondered if that was why my cycle was falling irregularly. I went back and spoke to another nurse and she said it wasn't the right starting time, so then I got concerned.
Many thanks once again.

Brief Answer:
May be. It is possible that you had irregular bleeding because of this.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome back again.
Triphasic pill consists of three different doses of hormones in the active pills
I do not know which last active pill you are speaking about. It is possible that you had irregular bleeding because of this.

Now stop worrying about it.

Take care. If you have any further queries, do write to me through Healthcare Magic.
