Question: im a caregiver for a 71yr old vietnum vet. he has agent orange and is classified 1005 disabled service connected. he has prostrate cancer. its been 3 yrs since we found out it has returned, supposedly it now is in the bone of both hips, a malignant tumor was removed from his bladder 2 weeks ago. they did that in day surgery and he ended up staying over night for precautions. The prostrate was bleeding and oozing they said and they weren't able to go any further. he says he feels fine. hes an alcoholic drinking 2 half gallons a week of vodka and throwing in a box of wine once a month on top of it. do you think he will last 2 more years? or what is his life expectancy? he has the starting of dementia

I am sos sorry to hear bout what your patient is going through. I have reviewed this information fully and it is almost impossible to see him going beyond two years, and that being very generous. It is rather unfortunate when prostate cancer goes to the bones as we can only retard progress but never do more than that. Dementia would not have so much bearing on his prognosis as the main threatening element is the metastasized cancer of the prostate.

I hop this helps. I know it is not any good news but I feel oblige to share what my evaluation is and more so because you have requested for it. Please, show him love and be very supportive as these are certainly not an easy period in his life.
