What Is The Life Expectancy Of Someone With Metastatic Breast Cancer?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Dec 2015
Question: I have a friend that was diagnosed with breast cancer beginning of the year. She went for her checkup and 6 months later she has Metastatic breast cancer and it has spread to her liver and breast. I'm not sure if cancer in her liver is on one spot or spread. Is that bad that it spread within a 6 month time period? She is in her late 40's. I know every situation is different with this sort of cancer but with chemotherapy, what do you think her life expectancy is? Also, she found this out after her 3 month check up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Prognosis is guarded, depends upon histopathology.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and concern for your friend.
Read and understood that she was diagned as metastatic breast cancer within the first 3/6 months of treatment/ first follow up.
This is stage IV.
Some cancers respond very well with chemotherapy.
And in breast cancer the therapy also depend upon whether the tumor is hormone dependent or not. There are good results of a combination is surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy. And I am sure that she must be under the best team of Specialists dealing with these.
Another aspect of therapy is also very important:
Maintainance of of good hemoglobin, serum proteins, diet, exercises, positive attitude, naturotherapy to increase immunity, support of family and friends all help in positive outcome.

Hence a multi-appoach therapy can help in a trendous way and decides the life expectancy which is difficult to predict due to multi- faceted nature of this disease.
I hope this answers your query.
