Question : Hi, I was just wondering how much the nuchul fluid normally increases between week 11 and week 12? My obgyn did a preliminary measurement of my nuchul fluid today and said that he thought it was about 2mm (but wasn't a proper nt sonographer). I am currently 11 weeks and 4 days. He indicated that this was a normal amount. I have my proper NT scan next Tuesday, so was just wondering whether the thickness of the NT fluid would increase in this time and generally by how much? Also, could you confirm that this measurement is in a normal range?
Many thanks
                            Many thanks
                                    Brief Answer:
Yes this measurement is normal.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us about it.
I can understand your concern here.
Nuchal thickness is a fluid present back side of the neck because this is the time when baby lymphatic system developed.
Anything between 1.5-3.5 mm considered normal.
At 11 weeks 3 days it should be less than 2.5 and during 13 weeks it should be less than 2.8-3.0
NT value more than 3.5 consider that chances of down syndrome are more( risk increase).
In your case it is within normal limit so there is no need to worry.
Hope it is useful, feel free to discuss more.
