Question : What is the normal testesterone range for man that is 50 years old?

                                    Brief Answer:
Hi
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
The lower normal cut off value of testsoterone is still a controversy. However, most endocrinologists consider a normal fasting ( 8-9 am ) testosterone value range of 3.2 ng/ml to 8 ng/ml. This may vary slightly based on the assay kit used.
In 50 yrs old, this holds good

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I would consider that a very normal level of testosterone in a male. You may need to rule out other causes of follicultits like excess cortisol etc ( however, in that case, your testosterone levels usually drop). However, if you are gaining weight etc, it may be worthwhile doing a 24 hour urine free cortisol or a midnight salivary cortisol. These are to rule out excess cortisol in your system.
Tje other thing causing recurrent follicultis is skin coloniasation with bacteria like Sataph aureus /MRSA. You may need few skin swab cultures and antibiotics and mupirocin cream etc may help.

I am not gaining weight if anything i have actually lost weight. The mupirocin cream you have suggested is that particularly good for folliculitous? Can you also recommend a shampoo?

Good day,
Yes, mupirocin is good in eradicating staph auraeus. As i mentioned earlier, you may need skin swab culture froom groin, axilla, nose etc. If there is colonisation, mupirocin together with povidine iodine body shampoo/scrub may help. This has to be appplied several days. Your family members may need treatment too. Please meet a dermatologist wwho may be able to take te swabs and recommend the soap/shampoo
