One of my nephew was opearted for heart condition when he was 5 month old now he is 12 yrs old. We do his colour doppler every year. Kindly provide your guidance on his future life, if he will require any medical attention or can lead a normal life. Details attached for your reference.
Thanks.
How much is his ejection fraction
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through the previous records as well and he has severe LV systolic dysfunction which means his heart function was very low at the time of operation.
In the current echo, Dr has mentioned dilated LV which means heart function is low but how much low is not mentioned.
So is there another page of this report, if yes please upload it.
Or else you should upload the last year report. We need to know the function or in medical term ejection fraction of the patient to predict future course.
Usually, patients do well post-surgery, but monitoring needs to be continued as the mild disease is still there and, also he has a bicuspid aortic valve which can get narrowed or leaking in future which may need intervention.
Next thing, if his heart function is low then he needs to be on medicine like beta blockers and ace inhibitors for function preservation and improvement.
Overall, usually, the prognosis is good if heart dysfunction is mild.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Sagar Makode, Cardiologist
