What Is The Prognosis For A HIV Patient Suffering From Heart Disease?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: I have a brother that has had aides for about eight yrs. resently his dr. Told him that the aides virus has attached his heart & only 50 percent of his heart is working. The dr suggested that before ho puts a pacemaker and or a defiibulator in he wanted to try meds which unfortunately I am only aware of a blood thinner and a bp medication. After three months there was no change so rather then going in with a pacemaker or defibulator he decided that the meds were working & he just doubled the amount he was originally taking. My question is that will my brother(55 yrs old) b able to life a normal life or will it eventually worsen & cause a premature death?

Brief Answer:
Prognosis will not be very good

Detailed Answer:
Hello

After going through the medical details provided by you i can understand your concern and i would like to tell you that, Its hard to say but the truth is completely normal life cannot be expected as when the disease progresses it slowly lower down the body immune system making it vulnerable for the infection to occur easily.

Also as it has already affected the heart the life expectancy certainly got affected. However regular follow ups with echocardiography of the heart at 6 months will give us a better idea of the things as if they are going in a favorable direction or not.

But it doesn't means one should loose hope as positivity harbors good health and a positive attitude and approach can bring us a better and acceptable prognosis.

I hope this information will answer your query. Feel free to ask me back if you have any other doubts.

Kind Regards
