Usually lower back pain is caused by age related wear and tear or degenerative changes. If the pain in your lower back is going down to your legs, then it could be a symptom of nerve compression in your back.

If the pain is only in the lower back then it would be best to avoid bending forward or lifting anything heavy and try to do some lower back stretching exercises. If the pain is shooting down from the back going all the way down to your foot or your toes, it would be best to get an MRI scan to check if you have any compression of your nose in the back.
