Question : My husband who is 64 but very fit and healthy a good height and weight and has always been very active. He has had a tumour removed from his bowel, very successful, no bag, but 5 out of the 19 lymph nodes were affected. Tisue reomoved above and below the tumour was clear and healthy The cancer had not spread to any other organs and he is soon to receive adjuvant chemotherapy. Is there hope that if the cancer does not return he may well live for many years to come, or is 10 years the normal?

                                    Brief Answer:
More than 10 years
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Your husbands tumour has been detected at an early stage and with proper treatment he would be able to lead a normal life.
Since your husbands bowel tumour has been removed and other organs are not effected after he receives adjuvant chemotherapy if the cancer does not return within 3 years then he will live for more than 10 years.
He will need 6 monthly follow up check up with CT scan of whole abdomen and blood for CEA.
