Question : About 6 weeks ago, while running I felt a pop in my right ankle/calf area and then it was painful to walk for about 14 days. I iced, wrapped, rested and elevated it per the NP instruction over the phone. The NP said it could be a tore muscle or small tear in the achille's tendon. There is still a tender area on my medial calf area that is swollen. Is this something that needs to be looked at? Can I try to start running lightly again?

Brief Answer:
You need to get ultrasound examination

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you may have tendoachillis injury. It can be torn also. It is a tendon needed for fast running and standing on tip toe. You need to get ultrasound examination of calf to make sure that there is no such injury. In case you had such injury you need to get it checked by orthopaedic surgeon.
If injury is partial tear then it can be managed by splinting for next three weeks. In case it is co plate tear there may be need of surgery. Remember if you delay then chances of healing become less.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any followup questions.
thanks
