What Is The Treatment For Uterine Prolapse?

Posted on Thu, 14 Sep 2023
Question: To whom this may concern,

I am almost 100% sure I have a Uterine prolapse. I noticed it about 10 months ago and now it's gotten so much worse. I believe it's stage two prolapse (my cervix is really low). In the past few months I've also noticed that I could possible have bladder and rectum prolapse as well. Not sure who to contact. I currently don't have a family doctor and have never been to a Gynecologist. I've been Googling a lot and got some info on possible treatments. At this moment I think surgery would be the best option for me . I really want to see a doctor and get some sort of a solution. This is a really uncomfortable situation to discuss so I don't want to go the emergency room and explain everything at the front desk. I was Hoping to get an estimate of how long I would be on the wait list before i could get surgery, hypothetically speaking if I got approved for one. I also wanted to know the price of these surgeries . Any extra info would be great as well. Thank you in advance and hope to hear from you soon.

Brief Answer:
Need to contact a gynecologist

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Uterine prolapse can be managed with surgery and non-surgical options as well. They may repair the muscles and may/ may not remove the uterus. If you are still of young age or wish to have children or damage is not there, they may deny surgery for you.
Non-surgical options for uterine prolapse are Keggels exercise and vaginal pessary. These pessaries are easily available at pharmacies in Canada or you can order it online and try for yourself. Drinking cleaner water from RO system is helpful sometimes.

Since its not an emergency, you can simply visit your family doctor office and ask them to book a gynecology appointment for you. They will be able to assist you. The wait time varies with different specialists but if you demand urgent intervention they can give you an appointment in few days. Otherwise waiting could be few months.

These surgeries must be covered by Canadian health coverage. A laparoscopic hysterectomy maybe around 5000 to 6000 CAD.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for your help. I also wanted to know if I got the surgery would I still be able to have kids? And if I could still have kids and really insisted on getting the surgery to improve my day to day life, do u think I would still get denied. Im 99% sure I will need to go in for surgery, my cervix is basically out of my body at this point.

Brief Answer:
To complete family before surgery

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Generally it is advised to complete one's family before surgery for uterine prolapse.

The surgery will either involve removal of uterus (hysterectomy) or fixing the pelvic muscles (hysteropexy). In hysterectomy, there is practically no scope of pregnancy afterwards. In hysteropexy, pregnancy can be tried. After hysteropexy, usually no complication in pregnancy, sometimes during delivery cesarean may be required due to tight muscles. You can talk to your gynecologist about all possibilities before deciding your surgery.
