Brief Answer:
venlafaxine is not the cause of the low sodium

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern.

Venlafaxine and Metformin both , do not lower sodium levels.

HYPONATREMIA is a sodium level below 135 mEq/L. however, the main worry here is how quickly the sodium level falls. If the sodium has been falling at a steady rate , then Central nervous system adapts and is rarely affected too much.
Diet modification or Normal saline infusion to slowly correct the Sodium are more than enough in that case.

Diuretics use is a common cause for a low sodium level. You may list the medications your husband is currently using, to guide you better. Please also mention the exact sodium levels tested most recently.

As far as the dementia is concerned, workup for Alzheimers disease should be done. Stroke should be ruled out and Vitamin B 12 deficiency and Thyroid disorders should also be looked for, in consult with your doctor.

Brief Answer:
sodium levels are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,

No, the medications you listed do not cause a low sodium.

Your husband ' s Sodium levels are currently in normal range , so no vigorous correction is needed.

Folate and Folic acid are one and the same thing.
Normal folate level in plasma is 4.5 to 45.3 mol/L.
RBC folate levels are more reliable compared with plasma folate levels.

B 12 levels should be corrected, initially 30 mcg IM for 10 days should be given and then dose adjustment be done accordingly.
