What Must I Do About A Lump On The Left Side Of My Head Which Hurts When I Brush My Hair?

Question: Hi, there! On Monday I found a lump on the left side of my head. I only noticed it because it hurt to brush my hair. Since then, 3 more have popped up. They’re about the size of a dime and really hurt. They also have given me a fantastic headache. They’re not draining or anything, but, like I said, they’re pretty painful. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for your time.

Brief Answer:
You will need to have some one look carefully at your scalp

Detailed Answer:
What you are describing could be a number of things from infected sebaceous cysts to a herpes simplex viral infection otherwise, known as the shingles. It is really not possible to know exactly what these lesions are without a more personal and hands on examination.

It would be very helpful if you could have someone take digital photographs of the bumps you're talking about since then, it could be possible to at least see what the skin and surrounding areas look like, how the lesions are distributed (i.e. if clumped together or dispersed), and also to see if there might be any drainage or bleeding, scabbing, etc.

Otherwise, if that were not possible then, the best advice I have would be to see a doctor as soon as possible since there is treatment that can be offered no matter what type of problem this could be....but the longer you wait the less effective the treatments become in the case for example of the viral infection. That really needs to be diagnosed, possibly cultured, and then, treatment started just as soon as possible...within no more than 48 hrs. after first discovered.

If would also be helpful if you had any blood results from the last 30 days or so such as a CBC/diff. If you don't have that test done, no matter...but if you could somehow get to an Urgent Care Center....they may even run the test as part of a standard workup...then, you could post the PDF version of those results here along with pictures.

If I've provided useful and helpful information to your questions could you do me a huge favor by CLOSING THE QUERY being sure to include several fine words of feedback along with a 5 STAR rating? Again, many thanks for submitting your inquiry and please let me know how things turn out.
