Brief Answer:
Malnutrition

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I don't know what you consider to be healthy food during lactation?

Breast milk passes on the nutrition to the baby from mother's food and/or body reserve. It is therefore important to eat healthy, nutritious food during this period. I have seen many babies to not gain enough weight, when mother is not taking enough calories. Similarly, vitamins and minerals are also lacked. If mother does not eat enough, then nutrition will be derived from her own body stores and she may suffer effects of protein energy malnutrition. Babies may fail to gain enough weight. They may suffer protein energy malnutrition. Vitamin lack may complicate the matter.

Many studies have confirmed that maternal dietary intake of fats and vitamins directly affects the breast milk composition.
