Question : Hi Dr. My wife was diagoned with having thyroid some 2 months back, in a routine checke up by the Gynac. Dr prescriber her to have thronorm 50 mcg for 3 months at that time. In last month she got pregnanet and this is her 7 week. Gynac asked her to contuine with the same medicine as of now. In relation to pregnancy and throid I would like to know what extra precuation would you suggest to ensure that throid does not interfer in pregnancy for the balance month till the time she delivers. as one of our relatives had lost her child bcoz of sudden rise in her throid at 5 month, we are really worried.
Brief Answer:
needs to take strict care.
Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, hi! welcome to HCM. As far as thyroid and pregnancy are concerned, they have a very intimate relation and need intricate balancing. Thyroxine dose will go on increasing till term. Targets for pregnancy are TSH 1-2 uIU/mi, FT4 1.4 -1.8 ng/dl. So you need to check both TSH and FT4 through out pregnancy, and that has to be done every 4-6 weeks through out pregnancy. For now you need to recheck TSH and FT4 and send me a fresh report. Regards!
