Scan at 38 weeks help to determine fetal growth, position of the head, fluid volume around the baby and placental position which helps to determine the time of induction and modeof delivery..

If baby is breech at term or if placenta is low lying normal delivery won't be possible.. Similarly if AFI is low or baby is small for age early delivery might be required..
