Question : I had been experiencing pain by my gum line for a week or so. I was able to get an emergency appointment with my periodontist. He did a quick scaling and found a cavity by the gum line. I am still experiencing on and off sensitivity/pain but all of the dentists in my area are closed due to coronavirus. Only seeing emergencies and my cavity I guess does not qualify. What can I do to keep it from getting worse while waiting for the dentist to reopen.

Hi...

Well, first of all, you should make sure whether you have pain or sensitivity...
Please answer the following questions so that I can advise you better:
- Is there pain or sensitivity is with hot and cold both or is present without any stimulus also?
- For how long does the pain or sensitivity stay before it goes off?
- Are the gums in that area red or swollen?
- Are you taking any medication for the same?
- Do you have any medical problems or are you on any chronic medications?
- Any known allergies?
Please revert with the details...

                                    Brief Answer:
For now use anti-sensitivity toothpaste.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Well, for now, use anti-sensitivity toothpaste, apply a little paste over the area and leave for half a minute and then brush it off...
You can use it for 15 days and then switch to your regular toothpaste...
Maintain good oral hygiene...
Avoid too much of sticky and sweet foods...
Drink plenty of water...
Do warm saline gargles daily...
Thanks
