Question : I have hemorrhoids which do you bleed at times. The night before last they had a BM, and there was a pool of blood on the toilet so I used a prescription suppository. The next morning I felt like I need to have a BM, so I pushed thinking that BM was coming out and when I looked it was just a pool of blood in the toilet so I used another suppository. I did have a BM later that morning with no bleeding, and then I had another BM but again there was blood in the toilet. I did have a teleconference with the nurse practitioner from my doctors office, and she said it%E2%80%99s probably just the hemorrhoids since I had just had a colonoscopy done in February and everything was fine just one polyp was removed, and internal and X ternal hemorrhoids. Every time I went to have a BM yesterday there was blood in the toilet. I had a BM last night, and there was no blood in the toilet so I thought it was probably getting better. Are used another suppository last night, and another one this morning, and have no bleeding happen till tonight when I had a BM and again there was a pool of blood in the toilet. is it normal for it to take a few days to completely resolve? Should I be overly concerned? I have never had it like this before. Usually when it bleeds. It bleeds a couple of times, and once I start using the suppositories it resolves pretty quickly. I am trying not to be overly concerned. Again is it normal for it to take a few days for the bleeding to completely resolve?

Brief Answer:
Normal for it to take a few days!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks so much for this query.

Hemorrhoids could take a couple of days before they get resolved. I am not worried about blood as much as am worried about the quantity. Our main problem with hemorrhoids is pain and blood loss. Apparently, pain is not a major concern at this time.

Should you start feeling excessively tired, weak, dizzy, having light headache, etc., I will recommend you see your doctor for review. I am not concerned about any possible cancers given that our colonoscopy was very recent.

I will recommend you take iron pills at this time. Also, if your stools are not of soft consistency, I will recommend you get more fiber, fruits and fluids into your diet as straining makes symptoms worse.

I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
